It all started with a vision

LVI-WaBeK Oy and its unique SuperService concept are based on the philosophy developed by the company’s owner-manager Kimmo Pelkonen: to be a good business partner, you need to take a genuine interest in improving your customers’ productivity. To succeed today, a company must be able to offer a completely new type of service.

By 2014 online business had already evolved into a well-establish concept, but LVI-WaBeK wanted to take it further, to the actual construction site and the fitter’s storeroom. The solution was SuperService – the world’s first ordering system based on near field communications (NFC).

It all started with a vision

The first idea for a completely new type of HVAC store came to Kimmo Pelkonen – who comes from a family of entrepreneurs – when he was 14 years old and working as a trainee in an HVAC firm in Kokemäki, western Finland.

In 2000, he established his first company, Putkiva Oy, which specialised in plumbing installations. Already at this point, Pelkonen understood immediately that the key to a profitable business was cost-efficiency.

In 2004, Pelkonen set up an outlet called Uudenmaan LVI-Keskus, which operated in a 400 square-metre basement in the town of Tuusula, southern Finland. Initially, there was just the entrepreneur and a small stock of supplies and materials. A couple of years later, the company relocated to Petikko, Vantaa, and changed its name to LVI-Keskus Suomi Oy. At the same time, the contracting business was assigned to another firm, while the company itself specialised in the import and wholesale of HVAC materials and supplies.

LVI-WaBeK Oy – successful and service-minded

The company’s first branch was established in Lempäälä, central Finland, in 2007. In the same year, the company name was re-registered and changed to LVI-WaBeK Oy. WaBeK is an abbreviation derived from the German words for water (Wasser), heating (Beheizung) and air-conditioning (Klimatechnik).

In 2015, Pelkonen sold his majority interest in LVI-Nordic Oy, a contracting company he had established, to focus on HVAC wholesaling. At present, the principal place of business is located in Espoo, where building the extension has just been finished.  To date, it has opened 24/7 SuperService Wa’Center cash & carry wholesale outlets in Ylöjärvi and Oulu, and more are being planned.
